Experience
I began tutoring in my first year at UC San Diego, when I volunteered for a UCSD affiliated charter school for first generation high school students. I then continued on to teaching college students at my university at a higher level in cognitive science, in groups of approximately thirty students at a time. Recognizing the value in teaching, in 2011 I began my own tutoring business for high school students in San Francisco. The specific topics that I taught to each student was different, and my method of teaching and communicating varied according to their specific way of understanding information. I believe that it is my academic training in cognitive psychology, paired with virtues of close attention and patience, that truly leads to my own success as a tutor-- because rather than mastering first the subject matter of the course that I was teaching, I made sure to first and foremost understand the way that each student listened, processed and recorded information. I am an extremely attentive person and teacher, and what makes me a great tutor is that I believe that there are many ways to teach and to learn-- and if harnessed, can lead any student to a successful academic career.
