Education

Graduated from the Pforzheimer Honors College at Pace University in May 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics Math GPA: 3.4 Overall GPA: 3.65 Earned the Math Service Award for my proactive initiative in making Linear Algebra a prerequisite for Multivariable Calculus, and for sitting on the committee that was responsible for hiring a new chair for the Math Department.

Experience

Earned an A in all Calc courses, Calc I, II, and III, and Differential Equations. Earned a B in Statistics and Linear Algebra. For a year and a half, I tutored at Pace University’s tutoring center. The subjects I tutored when there include Algebra, Math for Life (includes elementary statistics), Pre-Calc, Calc I, and integration methods of Calc II. Also while there, I held review sessions for final exams and midterms for students studying for Math for Life and Calc I. Similarly to this experience, I was a TA while at Pace for a year where I held weekly review sessions and answered students questions for their Calc I course. I do not have as much experience tutoring Diff EQ, Linear Algebra, and Calc III but am very eager to have these tutoring opportunities to expand my tutoring experience. My tutoring experience is mainly with college students and adults returning to school, but I believe my patience and fun spin on this subject material would make me a great tutor with middle school students and high school students studying for regents, SAT’s or simply for their final exams. I have tutored a broad range of students, from those who thoroughly enjoyed the material to those who simply wanted to pass their class or exam. Regardless of the level of interest, I make sure that I communicate that passing and understanding the material doesn't come without a commitment to learning. I understand everyone has a different way of learning, and cater the angle at which I approach problems with students depending on these factors. I would say I became a tutor while studying for my undergrad for the same reason most students do – to make some extra cash on campus helping students pass classes I’d already taken. Since then, I’ve realized how developmental the opportunity was and continues to be, and how I’d tapped into a skill set I didn’t realize I had. Tutoring has allowed me to give to students what I experienced when I took my math courses – a sense of excitement with the challenge of each problem and an eagerness to learn. To show other students how fantastic the small knowledge we learn in the classroom is in the big world of mathematics is gratifying and puts an immediate purpose behind the material.
