Experience

I have over 4 years teaching English--Literature, Composition, Developmental Writing, and ESL--at the college level. I have taught students in these subjects at community colleges, 4 year colleges, and private universities. I have also tutored students in ESL, English, and French for over 3 years. I am a Ph.D. student who has won a very competitive grant in Neuroscience, Perceptual Psychology, and Poetry from the CUNY Graduate Center. In 2009, I was awarded the highest amount of money available for my research in this grant contest, out of all of the students in any concentration enrolled in the Ph.D. program. My SAT scores (when it was out of 1600) 740 V 740 M My GRE score 730 V Subject tests on the SAT: Biology 750 English 750 AP exam scores: Biology 5, U.S. History 5 Plus, I scored second in the state of Pennsylvania in the Biology section of the Science Olympiad. I am also fluent in French, and I have worked as a translator for over 6 years. I greatly enjoy tutoring students, because the one on one interaction and trust can spur learning much faster than teaching a large class can. I especially enjoy it when the student takes a real interest in the subject matter--not because the student is supposed to, but because he or she actually wants to. I try my best to tailor the curriculum to individual students' strengths--so that the student can get curious--and then to work on any weaknesses the student has.
