Private tutor in New York, NY

Education

I graduated from New York University (College of Arts and Science) and majored in Philosophy (the number one department in the country) and minored in law and society and economics. After working for two years after college, I then attended law school, Cardozo Law, in New York City and focused on securities law and banking law. I also studied privacy and data protection while interning for a federal judge at the Southern District of NY. While attending law school, I interned and worked all three years. It taught me to figure out a way to be efficient in my studies so that I can also gain practical experience. I landed very coveted internships and maintained my academic goals. Unlike most tutors, I strongly believe in being able to excel both in the academic area and the practical area, which is something I bring to all my tutoring sessions. Today, I am an investment solutions professional/registered attorney at a Fortune 500 company, specifically a top tier financial institution. I manage a global platform here and and have often found creative ways to bring the real world to my tutoring sessions ... successfully tying the academic world to the practical world.

Experience

2. I’ve tutored students for about 8 years. My students have been elementary school students to law school students, in various disciplines from liberal arts to math/science. I’ve also tutored students for various exams (i.e., PSAT, SATs, APs, LSATs, Bar Exam, Real estate licensing exams, etc). While I enjoy my job and am proud of my accomplishments, I truly enjoy teaching. Why? As a young girl, born and brought up by two humble parents, I taught myself to learn because I wanted to “make it.” I did not have the resources where I can ask for assistance. My mother barely spoke English, but she was strong willed and always made me feel like I can figure it out. I made my way to NYU, and then law school and then today to one of the top financial institutions in the world, where I hold a global role, advising senior management. All this stems from my interest in teaching myself and figuring out a method to learn effectively. Learning and teaching is something I hold to my heart because it played a key role in my personal journey. I want to pass that along. I teach my students via the Socratic method. I am passionate about making sure students under the concept rather than getting the answer. Why? Because conceptual understanding helps us to learn “how to think” rather than “what to think.” The former will help your child connect the dots and form logical conclusions, which will play a critical role in their professional life. Grades will get you in the door, but after that, analysis, presentation, communication, synthesis plays a key role and I am very passionate about bringing this to my tutoring session. I am a young professional member of the council of foreign affairs, where I participate in and learn about various global issues. I am also a member of the science and law committee at the NY bar where I participate in novel issues.

Hobbies

I truly enjoy traveling. When that is not an option, I enjoy long walks in the city, particularly in Central Park or in the Carl Shultz park. I’ve also recently picked up biking, which I am starting to enjoy very much. Growing up, I never learned to bike. In fact, for the longest time, I’ve had a fear of biking. Recently, I put my fear aside and started to bike throughout the city.
