Experience
I have over 10 years of tutoring experience at levels from elementary school through to graduate. I have several years of experience as a Teaching Assistant at Columbia University in statistics, computer programming, and mathematical modeling. I also have extensive teaching experience as part of the Columbia University Neuroscience Outreach program. This involves teaching classes of 20-30 middle school students the basics of experimental design and principles of neurobiology in an accessible hands-on manner. During the last two summers I taught Physics for the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program. The program involves intensive classroom teaching of college physics to undergraduates who wish to attend medical school and who need to solidify their understanding of the core sciences. Through the program I have given hundreds of hours of lectures in physics and spent hundreds of extra hours tutoring students one-on-one in order to get their GPA up to the standard needed to enter the top medical schools. Finally, tutoring for me is not simply about finishing the assignment at hand. I help students to acquire study habits and writing skills that will serve them after our sessions are over. I am sensitive to individual students’ learning styles and pedagogical needs, and plan my lessons accordingly.

Hobbies
Outside of the scientific world I have a very broad range of hobbies. I believe sincerely in helping students to see the connections between different domains of work and study and encouraging them to think creatively about all of their interests. I read extensively, and audit classes, in the history of political thought and the history of science. During my time as a PhD student I also became a proficient ceramicist through classes at Teacher's College Columbia. I have a particularly keen interest in poetry and found the time during graduate school to attend several semester-long evening poetry writing seminars at Columbia.
