Alisa Y.
Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
MA in Media, Culture and Communication at New York University BA with Honors in Comparative Literature at Oberlin College
Experience
Translation and language teaching has always been a strong interest of mine. I was a tutor and class assistant for the Oberlin College Japanese department and have continued private Japanese tutoring after my undergraduate program. I am a professional writer and translator in English and Japanese, with bylines in The Japan Times and other media outlets. An original article of mine is currently used for the Kansai Gaidai University entrance exam. My teaching style is flexible and I want to find learning methods that work best for you. Do you learn more when you talk a lot? Let's do a conversation class! Do you learn by memorizing rules? Let's dive into the mechanics of Japanese! I believe that the best way to learn a language is by being immersed in its culture and finding books, movies or music that will make you want to understand Japan more. I promise to keep the class fun and fascinating.
