Experience

I have been tutoring professionally for eight years. I began working as a teaching assistant in a Yonkers public school while in college, and upon graduation began work with a year-round after school program for English language learners. Upon moving to New York City, I began working one-on-one with a variety of students, aged 4 to 46. I have worked with students in elementary school and high school -- both public and private -- college, and graduate school. I have aided students in writing successful college application essays and college papers. I have tutored students struggling with dyslexia and expressive language disorders, and have worked with gifted and talented students who wanted a more exciting and rigorous curriculum. I received a 4 and a 5 on my AP World History and American History tests, an 800 on my verbal SAT and a 680 on my SAT in writing. I maintained a 3.73 GPA while at college, and have written essays and articles for psychologists, one of which was published on PsychologyToday.com. I have written several novels, with one on submission. I love to see the progress in my students, especially when something which was painful because it was difficult, becomes enjoyable when it is mastered. I love to watch their grade levels jump, and their confidence soar when they realize hard work can take them anywhere they want to go.

Hobbies

When not tutoring I am a professional dancer, singer, and cabaret producer. I have performed all over New York and New Jersey, and am trained in belly dance, jazz, hip-hop, Uzbek, and a variety of other dance styles. I love to read -- you'll never find me without a book! -- and to swim. I adore all animals, though I'm slightly more of a cat girl than a dog one, and am a proud comic book geek!
