EducationColumbia University in the City of New York - Current Undergrad, Classical Stuides
ExperienceI earned my bachelor's degree in Classical Studies at Columbia University. This involved many courses in history, mythology, philosophy, and, of course, Latin. I find it satisfying to think and interact in a dead language. I have skills that make me a great tutor, the least of which is a lot of knowledge and academic success on my own part. I say the least because, in my opinion, the things that make me an especially effective are patient, compassion, and humor. That being said, I did do well in school, and I like having the opportunity to share that kind of success with the students I tutor. While the way my brain works is very well suited to classroom learning and test taking, I understand that is not how all students are made, and I enjoy the challenge of discovering the unconventional methods that help a student connect with a subject in a way that classroom teachers can't provide. That's why the first thing I do with the students I tutor is learn about them, their strengths and abilities, the ways they best learn, and the things they are interested in. I also find out what will motivate my students, as that leads to much greater success.
