I am a Columbia University graduate student pursuing a masters degree in communication sciences and disorders. I have a decade of tutoring experience, and I have a political economy undergraduate degree from Barnard College. I have also studied Hindi, Urdu, and Spanish literature, and I was awarded with an Urdu studies scholarship. I have taught SAT preparation for the writing in critical reading sessions in Harlem, and I raised student scores by 200 points on average. I then worked for the Spanish government, teaching English to high school level and elementary school levels students. I also wrote and instructed curriculum for children and adults. After this experience, I worked in Calcutta for an organization that taught language and technology skills to rural students. As a tutor, I believe that the best way to help students is to provide them with critical thinking and problem solving skills so that they can work independently. I take gratification out of helping students understand new things and achieve success. I'm comfortable tutoring subjects like English, ESL, grammar, Spanish, writing, reading, algebra, pre-algebra, middle school math, elementary school math, and test preparation for the SAT, GRE, and other exams. When I have some spare time outside of school, I enjoy learning languages on my own, doing yoga, attending musical theater, hiking, and knitting.
