Experience
I am drawn to tutoring - and to teaching more generally - for at least two reasons. First, I find it genuinely fulfilling to assist students in achieving their academic and professional goals. Secondly and more importantly, however, since education plays an indispensable role in the process through which our minds attain maturity, I take very seriously my role in helping students attain understanding and learn to see themselves and their world differently. I am currently tutoring for a philosophy class and, having taught two college courses and served as a teaching assistant for eleven, I have extensive experience working with students. I adjust my pedagogical approach to fit the distinctive intellectual and affective dimensions of individuals' learning styles. In particular, I try to strike an appropriate balance in two important respects: first, between providing and withholding assistance, since students need help (why else would they seek a tutor?) but also the space to master material themselves; second, between providing honest but constructive criticism and robust encourage and support. I am interested in tutoring in three main areas. One is test prep: I can assist with SAT Verbal and Writing and the GRE Verbal. Another is tutoring for college courses: while my background is deepest in philosophy (including logic), I am also competent to help with political science (especially constitutional law) and American and European history courses (particularly intellectual history). Finally, I am interested in working with high school students on a variety of social science and humanities subjects, including history, government, literature, and economics. As a passionate and experienced educator, I look forward to working with you!

Hobbies
I am a (fiercely proud) native of western New York. When not researching and teaching philosophy, I enjoy exploring this remarkable city (often on my bike, Fred), watching movies, listening to music, spending time with my two cats, and reading about politics, commercial aviation, and baseball.
