Experience

At various times over the course of approximately fifteen years, I have tutored a variety of subjects in different settings. As someone who was always at the top of the class, I began privately tutoring my fellow students in high school. After achieving perfect scores on the verbal and writing sections of the PSAT and SAT, as well as 5s on my English language; literature; American history; and European history exams, I expanded my tutoring and teaching reach in college. As an undergraduate, I worked in a classroom setting and simultaneously trained as a tutor for a major standardized test preparation company. Thereafter, in law school, I began coaching students in mock trial, an activity that I continued to undertake as a practicing lawyer on a volunteer basis. My strengths include assisting students with essay writing, creative writing, grammar, editing, and other English language and literature subjects. In addition to my teaching experience, I have received both academic awards as well as professional recognition for my writing skills. I am also well-poised to tutor standardized tests. I scored in the 98th percentile on the LSAT; scored 169V/165Q/5.5AW (99/89/98th percentiles, respectively) on the GRE; and achieved perfect scores in verbal and writing on the SATs and PSATs. I now seek to stay abreast of current developments and changes in the administration of the SAT so that I can adapt my tutoring methods as needed. As a psychology student, I am required to engage in rigorous statistical and quantitative training and am therefore comfortable tutoring mathematics as well as English. My studies are highly interdisciplinary and I therefore have a wide range of subject-matter knowledge related to American and world history, government/civics, political science, economics, and other subjects. Moreover, I am very comfortable teaching students whose first language is not English; I am conversational in Spanish and French and can also speak a little Arabic (modern standard only), making communication easier for students who also speak these languages. Having lived abroad in the UAE for a year, and having managed clients from around the globe in my previous professional life, I am uniquely suited to interacting with students who come from different backgrounds. A final note: my professional experience and academic qualifications are irrelevant if I am not providing a beneficial learning experience for your student. That is why, above all, I aim to create a collaborative and dynamic learning environment that is tailored to the goals of each particular client. I am passionate about teaching, in large part because I am passionate about learning; and in my view, every teaching moment for you is, in equal measure, a learning moment for me. I will bring this enthusiasm and passion to every one of my sessions.

Hobbies

In addition to being passionate about learning and teaching, I am a classically trained musician who enjoys playing, singing, composing, and listening to all genres of music. If your student is musically-minded, I am always happy to help create music-based mnemonic devices or write short songs with the aim of committing other subjects to memory. I found this to be particularly helpful during my bar study and have applied it in other settings as well! I also enjoy travel, cooking, playing softball, swimming, hiking, and taking my very energetic Australian Shepherd for long walks in Central Park.
