Experience
In 5th grade I volunteered my recess to teach the alphabet to kindergarteners. I was a mathematics tutor in my 7th and 8th grade years. I tutored English to Mexican workers in my restaurant, and helped my brother learn Spanish. I dedicated over 200 hours to middle school math tutoring when I was in high school through Top Honors. I absolutely love teaching middle school math. I taught ballroom dance in high school. I was a teaching assistant for our Psychology enrichment. And I began my own hip hop dance team. Summer 2009, I gave two talks on domestic violence in teenage relationships to teenage groups. I graduated high school in 2008 and took the SAT twice in 2007. My highest scores were 670 math, 670 writing, and 600 reading. My writing score was in the 93rd percentile and my Mathematics score was in the 89th percentile. I worked at the anti-violence project of new york (AVP) in 2009 and fell in love with nonprofit organizations. I was given the assignment of developing a talk on domestic violence in teenage relationships. I was responsible for the entirety of the project. I researched the topic and gave my talk to two different groups of teenagers. I loved the research and I loved the implementation. Recently I gave a talk at Iona College's women's leadership conference on interpersonal skills. The conference was geared towards young women of color. My talk was on the book “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie. Again, I was responsible for developing the 40 minute talk, and I am proud to say it was received very well. I love helping my community and I want to be the change in this world. I love public speaking, I love teaching, I love knowledge, I love research, and I love change. I support the struggle.
