Experience

I graduated from UC Berkeley with a 3.97 GPA and a degree in mathematics. I am available to tutor in a variety of math, physics, and statistics subjects as well as standardized test preparation (see list). I have more than 10 years of private tutoring and classroom teaching experience, having privately tutored students from schools such as Phillips Exeter Academy, Stuyvesant, UC Berkeley, Columbia University, and having taught mathematics courses at a private school in California. For a while, I worked as a financial analyst at the investment office of McKinsey and Company, but later decided to return to tutoring because I found it more fulfilling to help students reach their educational goals. Math has always been my passion, and I tailor my teaching methods to best match each individual student. Through my experience, I know which tutoring strategies work and which just create busywork. Additionally, I can also recommend which books and study guides to use and how to best prepare for the specific exam. Most importantly, I will teach a student how to attack the problem and how to think of the solution. Anyone can pick up study guides and practice exam books and go through it while checking their work with solutions at the back. However, the book doesn't tell you what you are doing wrong or how to improve yourself. If you want to be sure to do well on your first attempt, I will teach you how to approach problems, techniques, timing and approaches that cannot be found in any one single study guide but rather a compilation of years of experience and expertise. Here are some of my test scores: SAT Math II: 800 AP Calculus B/C: 5 AP Statistics: 5 AP Chemistry: 5 AP Physics: 5 AMC 12: 132 AMC 10: 136 P.S. My areas of expertise include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I&II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus (AP and college level), AP Statistics, AP Physics, IB Math, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, SAT Math Levels I and II, GRE Math, GMAT Math I only tutor in-person and am comfortable coming to your home or to an alternate location. I frequently give lessons at coffee shops in Midtown East or the Upper East Side. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hobbies

As a person, I'm patient and understanding. In fact I was very recently a student as well, so I can understand and relate to the troubles that students often face. On the weekends, I enjoy bicycling, exploring the city, and going to museums. I also enjoy solo travelling-- I've been to over 30 countries in the world.
