Experience
During my time in high school I worked a non profit organization called Peninsula Bridge Program working with students in 5th and 7th grade as a writing/English tutor for morning sessions and camp activities counselor in the afternoons. In school I took a variety of AP courses, in which I passed the AP US History, English and Spanish Literature exams with a 4 and AP Spanish Language with a 5. I've worked as an America Reads Literacy Tutor for my last year in college. I specifically worked with kindergarden and 2nd graders at an underprivileged school in the San Francisco Unified School District where I focused my time helping students with basic reading and writing skills as well as phonetics. Much of my course work in the performing arts curriculum centered around facilitating class discussion/dialogue as well as devised work, meaning I and my cast would create our own art work from the ground up (creating our own concept art, composing our own playlists/music, writing our own work, producing). All in all, I have a deep passion for tutoring and teaching, partially because of the passionate and exhilarating educators I have had in my own career while believing that education should be dynamic, engaging, and open to addressing an student's individual needs.

Hobbies
Hello, my name is Luis and I am a graduate psychology student at Columbia University. I am a transplant to New York from San Francisco recently after finishing my undergraduate degree and now starting grad school here in New York. I have a very outgoing personality and I am super excited to be in one of the most amazing cities in the country! I love being able to explore places, walk around and get a feel for the local flavor and vibe. I love to cook as well as making a lot of my cultural immersion to new places through food (as San Franciscan one is required to be a foodie). I've been classically trained in music for about 12 years now, my primary focus is in voice but I believe I have a good grasp in theory and can read scores, analyze sheet music, etc. Coming from a Catholic Jesuit College and being in the helping profession, I have a strong sense and belief that education is very important in the development of people as well as the multidimensionality of education in the way that educators instruct and relate to their students. In terms of how I work with students, I would like to be able to address specific areas of growth with students, guide them through the process with the goal of having them be comfortable to approach the same coursework with confidence and mastery of the material. If you would like to know more about me or request my resumé or CV, I would be more than happy to provide it. Thank you!
