Experience

After completing my undergraduate studies in Virginia, I lived in Europe for four years where I taught English as a Second Language in private and group classes. I worked with kids grades K - 12 as well as adults, all with different levels of proficiency. TLhis was a fantastic experience that got me hooked on working in education! I especially enjoyed working with students individually, as it allowed me to incorporate their interests and learning styles into our lessons to keep them relevant and productive. Over the past three years, I've consistently tutored students ages 9 - adult in English, Spanish, Math, study skills, and preparation for standardized tests. More specifically, I have 2+ years of SAT, ACT, AP (Spanish, Writing) and SSAT tutoring in the New York area. I achieved 700+ scores on all sections of the SAT, and an ACT composite score of 34. I've helped many foreign students edit their written work at the university level. Please feel free to inquire further about my experience and knowledge in each subject. I like to make sessions fun, engaging and practical. I adapt that each tutoring session is each student's learning style, level and goals. I am patient, yet hold high expectations for myself and my students. I aim to bring out each student's strengths, so that they can see their own potential and be confident in school and when taking tests. In studying school psychology, I learned a great deal about common learning difficulties and styles, as well as widely used interventions and accomodations that help students to acheive their personal goals. Last year, I worked one-on-one with elementary and middle school students who struggle with reading and math concepts and truly enjoyed it.
