Experience
I've been a tutor since 2007 when I entered graduate school. I've found it a great way to continue teaching, engage with students, and tutor the very subjects that got me into math in the first place. I've had thorough experience teaching at the middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate levels tutoring in: financial mathematics, mathematics, physics, statistics, computer programming, actuarial sciences and test preparation (SAT and GRE). I've been a Quantitative Researcher at JP Morgan in the Cash Equities space since 2018. Prior to that, I was a Quantitative Researcher at Morgan Stanley specializing in Spot FX (Foreign Exchange) from 2014 - 2018. Before entering industry - I was a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2011 - 2014 in Mathematics and Statistics at Harvard and Boston University. I received my PhD (2006 - 2011) in Mathematics from Duke University, and my BA in BA in Mathematics and Physics from Cornell University in 2006. Teaching Approach: 1) convey to students an intuition of the subject in order to determine how to best approach problems of interest, 2) teach the computations necessary to solve the problem in an efficient and straightforward manner. Testimonial from a previous student: Prakash tutored me through two semesters of calculus, and I can't recommend him highly enough. While I've always been able to study a math textbook and learn how to work problems, I was having trouble grasping concepts intuitively and applying them to exam problems. Working with Prakash helped me immensely and led me both to do better on tests and to really understand the material I was studying. He answered my questions clearly and fully, and he would often follow up an explanation of a concept with an example problem that would really drive the idea home. His friendly demeanor made sessions enjoyable, and despite his busy schedule as a PhD student he never missed a session and always made himself available. Thanks to Prakash, I ended up getting A's in my two calculus courses and came away with a genuine understanding of the concepts they covered. -L.T. from NC, USA.
