Experience

-I achieved an ACT score of 28 and a 31Q MCAT score. -I have taken the following classes: Genetics, Evolution, Organismal Diversity & Ecology, Cellular & Molecular Biology, Medical Physiology, Medical Anatomy, Histology, Biostatistics, Biology of Reproduction, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, General Chemistry I&II, Organic Chemistry I&II, Medical Terminology, Intermediate Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Biomedical Ethics, Physics I&II, Psychology, Human Development, Psycholinguistics, Research in Aging, Psych of Abnormal Behavior, Statistics, Experimental Psychology, Child Psychology, Psychology of Learning, and Computer Solutions. -I want to be a tutor because I enjoy conveying my understanding of the sciences to others and making possible, concepts which would otherwise be much more challenging to comprehend. My first experience with tutoring was as an undergraduate student at the University of South Dakota. There, I taught math and science to two middle school aged boys. This experience was very enlightening as both boys had ADHD, which required me to invent modified lesson plans for their learning success. I helped implement curriculum and assisted on homework, facilitated literary circles and created imaginative learning games. Their parents were both faculty professors at the University and were both instrumental in teaching me how to best teach their unique and gifted children. In addition, when I was a research fellow at Hunter College in NYC, I got the opportunity to teach high school students how to design and carry out research projects. I have also taught with Aspire, a Virginia based tutoring agency since January 2012. With Aspire, I taught students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and Georgetown Visitation in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics and Math. All these experiences provided me the opportunity to invent and incorporate new methods, as well as refocus educational resources in an effort to enhance work strategy, performance, and thus, academic achievement in my students. I have shown that I can teach my students how to strategically solve problems, analyze and interpret research data and devise and implement plans for increasing learning efficiency. I can teach my students how to translate scientific studies and problems into accurate but approachable language that is attentive to factual detail and accuracy. I can organize complex information in a tailored form for any audience to navigate. I look forward to having the opportunity to be your tutor. Science and technology is our future and we must have our best scientists teaching students who will impact the future. I want your performance and achievement to not only evolve, but to flourish.
