Education

I earned an MFA from Columbia University in 2016; I currently teach University Writing in Columbia University's Core Curriculum. Previously, I earned a BA with honors from the Gallatin School at New York University, where I was a Founders Day Scholar; I was subsequently awarded a year-long Writing Fellowship at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Experience

As an Instructor at Columbia University, I teach writing, reading, research and critical thinking skills to a diverse body of undergraduates, working with each student individually in addition to the time we spend in class, and providing extensive feedback on student work. I focus on identifying strengths as well as areas for improvement, relying on my experience teaching skills from grammar and mechanics to structural coherence and research strategies. In my previous work as a Writing Fellow and teaching assistant at NYU, I covered course material in the humanities (literature, philosophy, college writing, sociology), as well as spending time reading and editing college essays at NYU's Writing Center. Outside of my university commitments, I’ve tutored middle and high school students privately for the HSPT, SAT and ACT, helped graduate students craft admissions essays and revise assignments, and worked with international students on improving college-level English. My history of standardized tests includes 800 Verbal and 12 Writing scores on the SAT and a 169 Verbal and 6 Writing scores on the new GRE. I’ve also been a proctor for Advantage Testing. I enjoy working closely with students; being able to foster skills and watch students successfully develop these is immensely rewarding; as someone who has always prioritized learning, loved writing and sought the most effective ways of communicating what I know, I take pride in being able to help others achieve, and am determined to find an individual approach that works for each student. I am happy to provide references or samples of my writing upon request.
