I want to be a tutor because I am interested in helping students to achieve their highest potential. I believe in education as the path to increasing one's livelihood.
I helped to start a group on the SUNY Geneseo campus dedicated towards creating a community-based relationship with a school in Ghana, Africa. In addition to fundraising to help the school with necessary materials for education, we worked to raise awareness about Ghanaian culture and education. I am proud to say the group has carried on with much enthusiasm even after the original founding members graduated.
HobbiesI would consider myself a philanthropist and a huge advocate for education. I think more students should be encouraged to work with tutors as not everyone has the same learning style and viewing material from a different perspective can really help one to learn. Unfortunately, in a classroom with x amount of students, not all styles of learning can be fully addressed. I believe this can have a negative impact on the self-confidence of a student who is actually very bright, just learns differently from others. This is where the job of the tutor comes in. :)
