Education

NYU MacCracken Fellow, PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology UNC Chapel Hill, '12: B.Mus. in Vocal performance, B.A. in Arabic, minor in Physics; 3.99 GPA Rates negotiable! I will discount for sessions longer than an hour as well as regular weekly meetings.

Experience

During my two years as a TA for the UNC Physics Department, I taught mechanics with and without calculus to over 200 students. I consistently got wonderful feedback from them and received the department's Outstanding Undergraduate TA award spring '12. I also worked with 10 private students in physics, math, and SAT. All of them made amazing improvements! Looking back, I've grown up in a family of teachers and have taught since I can remember, helping friends proof papers and crack tough problems. I scored 5s on 11 AP exams (Calc BC, Phys B, Phys C, Stats, Spanish Lang, Spanish Lit, European Hist, US Hist, Music Theory, English Lang, English Lit); 2380 on SAT (800 verbal, 800 writing, 780 math); and 98th percentile on GRE (167 verbal, 169 quantitative, 5.5 on writing). Those scores don't matter to me beyond the doors they open and course credits they earned. I enjoy learning and I enjoy teaching. I love interacting with people. If I don't know the answer, I admit it and will search for it later. I'm happy to tutor any physics course through introductory modern physics, in addition to any math course up to Differential Equations, foreign languages, writing, and music (theory, voice, piano).

Hobbies

Food is my passion; I love to cook and bake for friends and family (and students!). I also run, bike, swim, and do yoga to stay centered. Several times a week from April through November, you can find me kayaking at the Inwood Canoe Club on the Hudson River. I am also an active community organizer in my neighborhood. As a classically-trained singer, I still have a great appreciation for many types of music even though I do not sing publicly these days. My research has taken me to Beirut, Lebanon for 13 months of ethnographic fieldwork with independent musicians between 2015 and 2017. Always happy to give out and receive recommendations for new tunes.
