EducationCertified Advanced Tutor (Level II) by the College Reading and Learning Association since 2008.

Graduated Magna Cum Laude with degrees in English and anthropology from North Carolina State University.
ExperienceI am an internationally-certified tutor who has been working with high school, college, and graduate school students for over nine years.
I typically work with top-tier private school students in New York City and Ivy League graduate students working on their theses, though I have experience with students from every level of education.
Tutoring is a bit of a side/passion project of mine; while I currently run my own editorial business and spend my days editing books, I love working with students and have yet to find the heart to say goodbye to tutoring.
I work with students on everything from academic essays to admissions counseling, in any writing stage from brainstorming/outlining an essay to editing the finished piece. Oftentimes I guide students through the entire writing process from start to finish, and I typically establish relationships with students that span multiple school years.
My greatest success story is with an NYU student who reached out to me during her sophomore year because she had debilitating writer's block. I guided her with every single essay for the next three years, teaching her how to research, organize, plan, write, and edit her essays, and by the end of her senior year she managed to write her senior thesis without any help from me at all...and received an A!
Although I tailor each session depending on what the student needs most, I typically focus on high-level issues in writing first: Clarity, flow, organization, comprehensibility, and originality. These, I feel, are the major underlying issues in any work. Only once the writing is to a certain standard do we move on to grammar and word choice, since ultimately a truly good piece of writing can transcend these lower-level issues. My goal is eventually for the student to write so well that I only need to offer minor adjustments and advice, and to be more of a second pair of eyes rather than a teacher.
Sessions are best done over the phone, Skype, or FaceTime so that we can share screens and really focus on the work at hand. Of course, I'm flexible and am open to other suggestions as well. Sessions are best held in the evening, though I will make emergency exceptions for my regular students.

HobbiesIn addition to tutoring, I am a book editor who worked for a Big Five publishing house before leaving to edit, tutor, and write full-time. It therefore goes without saying that I enjoy reading and writing above all, and I have a true passion for all things publishing.
Ever since starting my own business, I have also developed a great interest in entrepreneurship and business management and have started offering business consulting to those establishing their own enterprises.
In my spare time, I enjoy live music (especially the blues), practicing yoga, and creating artwork (though I wouldn't hang my paintings in anyone's house but my own).
