EducationCurrently a PhD Physics student at NYU
M.Sc. in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Alberta
B.Sc. in Honours Mathematical Physics from the University of Alberta
ExperienceI have been a private tutor in Math and Physics for 10 years, teaching students in high-school and university. For the past two years I've been employed as a TA at New York University, teaching undergrad labs and graduate recitations. At the University of Alberta I TA'd intro physics for two years, labs and seminars, and was an instructor for the high school outreach program. I had the honour of being awarded a Graduate Student Teaching Award for my work at the University of Alberta.
I am passionate about teaching, particularly physics and math. The world is an amazing place, and the skills we learn in these subjects can help us decipher a bit more about it. I try my best to impart this to all my students, while of course making sure they do well on their exams and ace their homework.
I have a lot of training in math and physics. This lets me show students some of the deeper connections between the subjects they're learning. I find once a student can see the deeper reason behind a concept, solving problems in that area becomes far easier. The most important thing however is practice. In my sessions we will work through several example problems in many different ways. I identify a students weak points, and we work out a strategy for fixing them (often more practice problems :) ) while keeping up with course material.
I have tutored high school students, college students of all years, mature students and students with disabilities. Every student is unique, and I tailor my approach to what works for you. Math and Physics doesn't have to be difficult.
HobbiesI am light-hearted and try to keep the sessions interesting, even if they're not always fun. I am an avid reader, play guitar and saxophone, and even tried my hand at fiddle for a while. I enjoy biking, camping, and hiking whenever I get the chance.
